To Believe is to Live

Tuesday, September 15, 2012 - Monday, October 15, 2012

Today's Reading: Proverbs 10-12; 2 Corinthians 4

Today's Thoughts: To Believe is to Live

"Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not

believe that I am He, you will die in your sins." John 8:24

The Pharisees were always trying to catch Jesus off guard. Regardless of what Jesus was teaching, they would test Him. The Pharisees were the religious leaders and teachers of the day. They knew the Scriptures better than anyone and were always ready to tell others how to live by them. They were superior in their righteousness, or so they thought. They enjoyed their status, their power and the honor given to them by man. Jesus however, created problems for them in His teachings. The people wanted to hear more of what Jesus had to say. The Pharisees were threatened as they saw their power diminishing, as more and more people followed Jesus. How sad to realize that the very One whom they had been waiting for their whole lives was in their midst and they did not recognize Him!

The people who denied Jesus would die in their sins because they refused to believe that He is the Son of God. When all is said and done, the verse above sums up the truth. If we do not believe in Jesus, we will die in our sins. Sadly, there are still Pharisees in our world today who think that by knowledge and good works they have the answers. There are those who can recite Scripture to justify any argument or prove any point and are always instructing others on how to live godly lives. Then, there are those who truly try hard to do what is right. They volunteer for ministry services, give freely to others in need and are kind-hearted to everyone. On the outside, both types look very godly and religious. But what about on the inside?

Jesus is not impressed with our "good" works. Our best intentions mean nothing in the kingdom of God. We are born of sin, live sinful lives and will die in our sins, unless we do one thing-believe in Jesus. It is not the kind of belief that acknowledges His existence or His role. James 2:18 tells us that, "even the demons believe and tremble." The word "believe" means to adhere to, rely on, trust in, and depend upon. Do you believe in Jesus Christ according to His definition of the word? Do you absolutely depend upon Him for your salvation? Do you know that there is nothing you can add to your salvation and that there is no good work that you can do for eternal security? The only requirement is faith. The only One who can cleanse us from our sins is Jesus Christ, and the only way we can be cleansed is by believing in Him alone. Today, you can know Him. Dear Lord, I want to know Your Son Jesus. I know that I am a sinner who cannot do enough good works to earn my salvation. I am lost without You. I want You to be my Lord and Savior forever more.

Phillips Temple CME Church

Today's Reading: Ezra 3-5; John 20 Today's Thoughts: The Power of Prayer Then the prophet Haggai and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophets, prophesied to the Jews who were in Judah and Jerusalem, in the name of the God of Israel, who was over them. So Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Jeshua the son of Jozadak rose up and began to build the house of God which is in Jerusalem; and the prophets of God were with them, helping them. Ezra 5:1-2 The Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus, king of Persia, to send some of the Jews out of Babylon and back to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple. "Then the heads of the fathers' houses of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests and the Levites, with all whose spirits God had moved, arose to go up and build the house of the Lord which is in Jerusalem" (Ezra 1:5). But once they arrived, adversaries rose up against them and many threats and distractions were used to thwart their work. How often do we encounter such distractions when trying to do God's work? Our adversary prowls about seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8) and doing whatever he can to stop our progress in the Lord. What the people needed, God provided. Zerubbabel and Jeshua needed support and strength. They got it from the prophets whom God raised up to help them. Haggai and Zechariah prophesied in the name of the God of Israel with His power on their lips, a power that brought the others back to work. For us, that power is in the prayers of others. We have the Holy Spirit and God's Word to strengthen and sustain us. But, we also need prayer intercessors in those times when we feel weak and worn out, especially when the adversary seems to be coming after us. Take time today and pray for those you know who are working for the things of God. Leadership and ministerial Christians are often on the front lines of battle where distractions are constantly interfering in their lives. Pray for them. If you are one of those on that battle line, do not hesitate to ask for prayer when you feel weak and weary. We have Jesus. We have His Word and we have His Holy Spirit, but He has also given us His body of believers to lift each other up in times of trouble. Prayer is a tool we need to use everyday-not only for ourselves, but also especially for those on the spiritual frontlines.

God is Good!

Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to take the time out to say how much we love this country. I know that our country is not perfect but neither am I. I know that my country makes mistakes but so do I. We the People of the United States of America expect greatness from our leaders. This is as it should be. This includes but is not limited to the City Council Member to the Governor to the President of our great nation and everyone in between. Our country is one of a kind. We as the People expect our Country to do Good. We as the People Expect our country to do what's Right regardless if it's popular or not. We the People expect our Country to stand up for it's People. Some would think of a million and one reasons why they should leave this great nation and run off some where else. I can think of a million and one reasons why I am going to stay and fight for what I believe in and support the Leadership of our great nation. And as the People we should hold our Leadership accountable for the good and the bad. Their job is difficult, stressful, and hard but we as the People of this great nation put them into these positions because we believe that they can do the job. So, let us let them do their job. God is good yall... Yeah, God is good and so is our Country. May God Bless America always. I am so thankful that I was born in this awesome Country. It warms my heart to be apart of this Great Nation. Now you know my position and you know my stand. Thank you Jesus, and Amen.

Christian Ethics

In the Service of our Lord

Out of woe, comes wit; Star emoticon The gateway of Conquerable Reality!
(Ecclesiastes 7:3)
~~~
"The task of Christian Ethics is determining what conforms to God's Character and what does not!"
(From the book: Understanding the Times)
~~~
It's too far to walk, but you don't have to run; Ask, then let God's Spirit bring you; you'll get there on, or even before, time.

1. Jesus only choose disciples after spending the night with God His Father. He knew these men. He had watched them. They were a varied lot. They all seemed to have an entrepreneurial spirit conducive to their varied inclinations.

2. Luke was not one of these called, but he was A Scientist (only accepting what can be proven and repeated). And he was a doctor (called to and prepared to heal). And a pragmatist. (See Luke 1:1-4)

Luke uses 45 verbs to describe utilization of the most effectively ministering of The Word of God.
I will here present eleven of them to you translated from The Greek to English:
A. Speak;..used 24 times in Acts..
B. Say...used 16 times..
C. Announce good news..15 times..
D. Instruct...15 times..
E. Publicly Proclaim...10 times..
F. Debate or Reason...8 times..
G. Solemnly Testify...8. times..
H. Herald...7 times..
I. Speak Boldly...7 times..
J. Exhort, Encourage, Comfort...6 times..
K. Persuade...6 times..
Ibid:
The only guaranteed way to permanently put earth's inherent darkness out, is to let Heaven's Glorious Brightness Sun emoticonin! See John 8:12!
Exchanging the Arrogant for the Elegant.

Otherwise;
"If you stand up, like a nail, you will get hammered down."
(Japanese Proverb)

Constructiveness is to do and say, the proven Living thing in the undefeatable and spiritual way.
See First Timothy 1:15.

Jesus teaches not to represent Him (as revealed in the Bible) as a Religionist. Rather, as Luke's scientist's determining observations concurred; Jesus and the Bible are/is an unique interpretation of universal history; the history of the whole of Creation and the history of mankind!

Therefore:
"Be not forgetful of prayer..
Every time you pray (f your prayer is sincere)
there will be a new feeling and a new meaning in it..
which will give you fresh courage..
and you will understand that prayer is an Education."
-Dostoyevsky-
"When one door closes, another opens:
But we often look so long and so regretfully at the closed door,
that we do not see the one which has opened for us."
(Alexander Graham Bell)

Sunday School Wall of Fame

The Wall of Fame

Sunday School Wall of Fame started as an award for those students who do well in Sunday School time after time and day after day. We broke it down into Three sections: Participation, Journal/book keeping, and Attendance. Now this may sound easy and everyone should be able to do it. But sometimes it is not as easy as it may seem. Getting up every Sunday going to Church for School, taking notes, and actually retaining and repeating what has been taught. Awe man, more schooling on the weekend?!

As one of the teachers of the High school Sunday Class I enjoy rewarding my students for there hard work and efforts. The Wall of Fame is just one way to do this and the Students love it. The Wall of Fame gets awarded every month and three gets selected for the year. I hope that we continue and keep this program for it is a very good program.

What we should do and ask for in the Lord

"If we asked God each day to give us the ability to view our scarred lives as Monuments to His Grace, instead of looking at the scars we bear as ongoing punishment, we would enter into a new Realm of of trust.

I encourage you to look at your Scars as Proof of healing for a certain length of time (say six weeks) and then step back and look at the changes that have taken place in your life.

I can guarantee that you will change. Instead of your circumstances (or consequences) changing.

Your ability to trust God in situations that before have tested your faith will take on new and exciting dimensions ."

A Christian Joke for you

Here is a Joke that I think that you will enjoy. It's Titled:

Baptizing a Drunk

A man is stumbling through the woods totally drunk when he comes upon a preacher baptizing people in the river. The drunk walks into the water and bumps into the preacher. The preacher turns around and is almost overcome by the smell of booze. Whereupon he asks the drunk, 'Are you ready to find Jesus?'

'Yes I am' replies the drunk, so the preacher grabs him and dunks him in the river. He pulls him up and asks the drunk, 'Brother have you found Jesus?'

The drunk replies, 'No, I haven't.' The preacher, shocked at the answer, dunks him into the water again, but for a bit longer this time... He pulls him out of the water and asks again, 'Have you found Jesus, my brother?'

The drunk again answers, 'No, I have not found Jesus.'

By this time the preacher is at his wits end so he dunks the drunk in the water again, but this time he holds him down for about 30 seconds.

When the drunk begins kicking his arms and legs, the preacher pulls him up.
The preacher asks the drunk again, 'For the love of God, have you found Jesus?'

The drunk wipes his eyes, catches his breath and says to the preacher, 'Are you sure this is where he fell in?!'
